A public welfare program integrating Internet Plus into tree planting was launched on Nov 5 in Hohhot, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
The Hi Forest app developed by Meng Shu, a Hohhot-based company focused on green industry, was released the same day, the first of its kind in Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
Users can adopt a tree on Hi Forest after registration and Meng Shu will plant a real tree and ensure that the tree is properly tended to. Users can also witness the growth of their tree using the app.
Meng Shu has provided thousands of trees for users to adopt, and established more than 10 planting bases in Hohhot, Bayannuur, Ulaanqab, Xiliin Gol League and Hebei province, covering a total area of 23,000 mu (1,533 hectares).
"The program integrates Internet Plus with the traditional tree-planting industry and will help get everyone involved in the national tree-planting campaign which started in the early 1980s," said Feng Weiping, vice-president of Meng Shu.
The Inner Mongolia autonomous region is one of the areas tasked with combating the process of desertification. It has made continuous efforts in desertification prevention and control over the past few years.
The new program, as part of these efforts, is expected to increase forest coverage in the region and help build a greener Inner Mongolia.
