Global city planners meet to discuss transport

More than 50 experts and city planners from cities across the world gathered in Guangzhou on Oct 30 for a special session discussing city transportation innovation.

Held by the Guangzhou Insititute for Urban Innovation, United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) Community on Urban Innovation, UCLG Asia-Pacific Secretariat and World Association of the Major Metropolises, the session was aimed at promoting communication and the sharing of city innovation among city planners across the world.

The five-day event is themed "city transportation innovation in the future" and features speeches, roundtable dialogues, case studies, group analysis, and cultural experiences. Participants will share cutting-edge information on transportation development, as well as discuss its challenges and exchange ideas on its future direction.

During the session on Oct 30, the fourth Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation (Guangzhou Award) announced that it was now open to registrations from across the world.

The Guangzhou Award is an event established in 2012 by Guangzhou Municipal Government, UCLG and World Association of the Major Metropolises to recognize innovation in improving social, economic and environmental sustainability in cities and to advance the prosperity and quality of life of their citizens. The award, presented biennially, is open to all cities and local governments with successful initiatives in urban innovation. The initiative that is entered for the Guangzhou Award should be an ongoing or recently completed (within the past two years) project, measure or policy that produces practical effect or substantial influence, boasting originality, exemplariness and transferability.
