China will drive urban development by modernizing its urban governance system and creating innovation, said Wang Menghui, minister of housing and urban-rural development, at the Global Observation of World Cities Day 2017 held in Guangzhou on Oct 31.
The development also needs to push forward a new type of human-oriented urbanization and promote a larger division of functions between big cities and small towns, Wang added. Green development, opening-up and inclusiveness are also key.
Guangdong province is working with Hong Kong and Macao to make the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area internationally first-class, said provincial Governor Ma Xingrui.
More than 380 officials, mayors and scholars from over 40 international organizations, countries and regions attended the event themed "Innovative Governance, Open Cities".
