Featuring office supplies, recreation products, food, shoes, textiles and garments, the third phase of the 122nd China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair) opened on Oct 31 in Guangzhou, running until Nov 4.
According to insiders, many pervious exhibitors in the light industry have become brand owners investing heavily in innovation and product design in order to gain a firm foothold in the international market.

A businessman from Jiangsu whose company deals in outdoor camouflage clothing said it is the 14th time that he has taken part in the Canton Fair. Despite the harsh situation in international trade, the turnover for his company has seen steady growth due to a stable amount of clients.

This year, the shoes exhibition sector also features a range of exhibitors with independent brands. According to a spokesperson for a shoes company at the fair, the profit for traditional contract shoemakers is decreasing due to increasing costs for labor and raw materials, which has forced these shoemakers to become original brand manufacturers.
Similarly, companies in the field of clothing, bags and textiles are no longer competing purely in terms of price. Instead, they are trying to tap the overseas market by designing high-quality products and promoting their brands, according to some exhibitors at the fair.
