Orders up at Canton Fair

Orders for porcelain products and home decorations were up in the second phase of the 122nd Canton Fair, which came to a close on Oct 27.

According to insiders, the increase in sales was due to great design and innovation.

During the second phase, a total of 2,300 exhibitors showcased their latest items in the areas of toys, gifts, handicrafts and pet products at more than 20,000 booths.

With the increasing costs for raw materials and work force, the quality and design of products have become the core competitiveness at the 122nd Canton Fair.

A home decoration buyer from Germany said that customers attach great importance to product design and quality as the European economy revival gradually picks up speed. A household items buyer from Morocco also spoke about the great popularity of Chinese products in North Africa and the Middle East due to their great innovation, novel designs and high quality.

"We have taken part in more than 20 Canton Fairs and at every event we can feel the fierce competition and only by concentrating our efforts on product innovation and design can we attract more buyers," said a spokesperson for Yangzhou Oopsot Decoration, a company which develops illuminated paintings.

According to Liu Quanhui, chairman of a Shenzhen-based porcelain company Auratic, 95 percent of the its exported porcelain wares are high-end products with great innovation. Liu said that company's turnover has doubled over the past year.

The third phase of the Canton Fair, which focuses on textiles, shoes, food and medical products, will take place from Oct 31 to Nov 4.
