Guangdong provincial authorities will urge and provide guidance to localities to equip all rural areas in the province with sanitary toilets and tap water in the nearest possible future.

Approximately 94 percent of the rural population had access to sanity toilets and 91 percent had access to tap water at the end of last year, said Wen Weiqun, a deputy head of the provincial health and family planning commission, at a press briefing on October 27, marking the 65th anniversary of the launch of the National Patriotic Health Campaign.

Seventeen cities and 127 towns in Guangdong have been accredited with the title of national sanitary city or sanitary town.

The city of Zhuhai was designated last year as one of the pilot cities to become a healthy city at the national level.

At the provincial level, seven cities, 32 towns and 262 villages have been chosen as the pilots to become healthy localities, Wen said.

The State Council issued the Healthy China 2030 blueprint in October of last year, covering areas such as public health services, the medical industry, and food and drug safety, with the aim to improve the health of all Chinese people.
