Under the guidance of industry and information technology commission of Guangzhou municipality, a special organization was set up to boost Guangzhou's new materials industry, holding its first member session on Oct 20.
The session centered on the construction of a new materials industry system with enterprises as its main body, supported by universities and scientific research institutes and featuring technological innovation, industrial clusters and industry-university-research cooperation.
The session also focused on a range of plans to make breakthroughs in producing new materials, mastering production techniques and increasing the global competitiveness of Guangzhou's new materials industry.
On Oct 23, Guangzhou issued a scheme to build itself into a demonstration city for implementing the Made in China 2025 strategy, listing the new materials industry as one of its key areas.
In the future, Guangzhou will attach great importance to the development of advanced high molecular materials, advanced inorganic non-metallic materials, advanced composite materials and alloy materials.
By the end of 2019, Guangzhou will have made great achievements in high-end materials and promoting its material brands, predicting a total output for the new materials industry of 360 billion yuan ($54 billion). The city will by then promote upgrading to make new materials more green and healthy and strive to build more industrial bases and clusters.
According to Yi Ming, an inspector from industry and information technology commission of Guangzhou municipality, a range of policies will be formulated in the future to help boost the new material industry.
