The total output value of Mazhang district hit 11.28 billion yuan ($1.7 billion) in the first nine months of this year, an increase of 10.2 percent year-on-year. The growth rate put the area second place in Zhanjiang.

With improved support facilities and transport network, more and more large-scale enterprises have flocked into Mazhang, giving rise to the flow of capital and labor in the district.

To date, there are 67 industrial enterprises above designated size in Mazhang, of which 56 are private enterprises and 11 are Hong Kong, Macao or foreign-based enterprises.

Its industrial park alone is home to 57 enterprises above designated size, and it yielded a total output value of 9.6 billion yuan in 2016. More enterprises are expected to swarm into the area with a projected equipment manufacturing base covering more than 1,000 mu (67 hectares).

With an investment totaling 5.2 billion yuan, the district saw construction on 13 projects get underway this year. Twelve of them are expected to come into service within this year to realize an output value of 2.7 billion yuan.

Part of the achievements is tied to the crisscross transportation network in the district. For years, Mazhang has been a transportation hub linking the western Guangdong with Southeast China and the only channel leading to Donghai Island.

In the near future, it will be further connected with Shenzhen-Zhanjiang High-speed Rail, Yulin-Zhanjiang Highway, Hepu-Zhanjiang Railway and Zhanjiang Expressway running through the district.

According to Fu Xian, Party secretary of Mazhang district, the area will step up the efforts to improve infrastructure in relation to water supply, power supply, internet and logistics stations. Also high on the agenda are a digitized urban management command center, four refuse transfer stations and a new sports park for the district.
