Wuhan, one of the top four science and education centers in China, has seven key universities directly under the Ministry of Education, 25 national key laboratories, and hundreds of key laboratories under the Ministry of Education.
The Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (Hannan), referred to as WHDZ, has 3 colleges and universities, 7 vocational schools, and 41 public elementary and middle schools, as well as kindergartens. Its vocational schools can train 30,000 industrial and technical workers per year.
The Wuhan French International School, San New School, Wuhan Yangtze International School, Wuhan Foreign Languages School (elementary and junior middle schools), and international classes of the First Senior High School in WHDZ offer a whole chain of international education services.
During the 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-15), a total of 670 million yuan ($10.1 million)(excluding the cost of land use) was invested for the construction of 23 new schools in the zone over an area of 186,000 square meters, which effectively alleviated the lack of educational resources.
