Hohhot, the capital of the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has made progress in poverty relief through a strategy of targeted programs in the past five years.
In 2014, a population of 60,659 in the targeted villages was identified as being poverty-stricken. By the end of 2016, 137 of 207 villages had been removed from the poverty list, and the number of people that below the poverty line had been reduced by 7,994.
From 2016 to 2017, the local government appointed certain organizations or officials to adopt targeted measures to help those still living in poverty.
Hohhot is a typical example of the national poverty relief program.
