In the past five years, Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou province, has lifted more than 383,500 people and 432 villages out of poverty.
The achievement is the result of the Guiyang government's efforts to improve rural incomes and create a better life for local residents.
Their first step was to improve the infrastructure in rural areas. From March of 2016, Guiyang initiated a three-year plan to improve the rural roads. So far, the government has renovated 1,441 kilometers of road in the villages and towns, forming a convenient transportation network for local villagers.
The government also launched a relocation project to lift people out of harsh living areas where natural disasters frequently occur. Over the past five years, 3,901 households were relocated to better residential environments.
Meanwhile, the local authority often organizes occupational trainings for impoverished people and actively creates jobs for them to improve their income.
Tourism has helped poverty reduction. Through building beautiful villages, Guiyang has promoted 185 demonstration scenic spots and 15 remote tourism routes.
