The 2017 China Crossing Populus Euphratica Forest International Marathon began in Ejine Banner, Alshaa League, Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Oct 15.

The event, organized by Ejine people’s government and Ejine tourism department, witnessed the participation of over 2,000 runners from China and abroad. It contained three races including a marathon (42km), half marathon (21km) and free running (5km).

Distinct from other marathon races, the Ejine marathon is the ninth stop of the 2nd China 550 Countryside Marathon Series, taking place in the most beautiful routes across China, while combining sports with tourism for free running.

Located in the northwest of Inner Mongolia, Ejine Banner possesses one of three existing desert poplar (also known as Euphrates poplar or populous euphratica) forests in the world. During the race, runners can enjoy the spectacular landscape of the area, particularly the colorful autumn scenery.

The race organizers and local government officials hope that the event can attract  more visitors from both China and abroad.
