On Oct 13, Chen Xiaogang, chairman of the Guangzhou transport commission, announced Guangzhou's grand plan to build a "12-hour air traffic zone" with all the major cities in the world by 2019.
According to the plan, passengers in Guangzhou will be able to reach any major world city within 12 hours and any city in China or Southeast Asia within four hours.
The passenger volume of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in 2016 was 59.78 million, up by 8.2% from the previous year. It has already surpassed Singapore Changi Airport and ranks among the world's top 15 busiest airports.
Chen also proposed the "three-hour high-speed rail network", which covers a 1,000-kilometer radius around Guangzhou.
