Typhoon Khanun, this year's 20th typhoon, landed in Xuwen county, Zhanjiang at 3:25 am on Oct 16, packing winds of up to 28 meters per second, according to the Guangdong Meteorological Bureau.

Affected by the cold air and typhoon, Zhanjiang is expected to see torrential rains and stormy conditions in the following two days along with a land wind force rising from 10 to 12 on the Beaufort scale.

Local meteorological authorities issued a yellow alert for storms on Oct 14, while a typhoon signal no. 2 remained unchanged at the Zhanjiang Port, the eastern part of the Leizhou Peninsula and the northern Qiongzhou Straits.

In view of the possible dangers of debris flow, mountain torrents and landslides brought by the typhoon, fishing boats are advised to take shelter in port. Tourist attractions and construction sites are expected to be temporarily closed for safety concerns.
