Wuxi kicks off 12th Sports Meeting

The opening ceremony of Wuxi's 12th Sports Meeting was held at the Wuxi Sports Center stadium on Oct 14.

The ceremony started with a procession of 21 teams marching into the stadium, including groups bearing China's national flag and the competition emblem and teams representing each of Wuxi's county-level cities and districts.

Li Xiaomin, member of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Standing Committee and secretary of the Wuxi Municipal Party Committee, then declared the quadrennial event open.

The crowd was then treated to a 30-minute performance themed on Wuxi's rich water resources, pro-fitness policies and preparations for the upcoming 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

The spectacular half-hour show featured more than 1,400 performers.

Wang Quan, mayor of Wuxi, as well as other Wuxi municipal leaders also made speeches during the opening ceremony.
