In recent years, Hohhot has made great efforts in developing the real economy, and promoting all-round economic transformation and upgrading.
First, vigorously implement the innovation-driven development strategy. Hohhot has sped up the transformation of traditional industries, and its six special industries have grown stronger, including food, electricity, petrification, medicine, photovoltaic industry and electronic information.
The emerging industries have grown at a rapid pace, with the output value accounting for more than 30 percent of the total. The contribution rate of the emerging industries for the industrial economic growth has exceeded 70 percent.
Hohhot has established many industrial parks for new strategic industries. In order to promote big data development, Hohhot has planned a 32.76-square-kilometer park to build the big data and cloud computing data center.
The number of national-level high-tech companies has reached 160, and the number of listed companies in Hohhot reached 31. Meanwhile, Hohhot has built 28 business incubation areas, attracting hundreds of startups to set up their offices in the 500,000-square-meter area.

Second, unswervingly promote organic development. Hohhot has actively promoted methods of green development, supporting green industry development in Yili and Mengniu dairy and grassland ecology restoration company M-Grass.
Hohhot has carried out projects of ecological protection. The municipal government has launched ecological comprehensive management project of Daqing Mountain.
The city has planted trees and grasses in 24,321 hectares and started building 144 green parklands in urban areas. The forest coverage and the per capita park green area have reached 24.9 percent and 19.7 square meters.
Third, further promote reform and opening-up. Hohhot always regards reform and opening-up as their fundamental solution to tackle developmental problems.
The governments have attached great importance to the transformation of government functions, improvement of investment and market environment, and they strive to create a fair and transparent business environment.
The number of administrative examination and approval items at the city level has been reduced to 81, a decrease of 88 percent.
Until now, the number of market entities in the city has reached 240,000, and the registered capital has hit 700 billion yuan ($106.3 billion), an increase of 10.4 percent and 24.3 percent respectively.
Furthermore, Hohhot has actively participated in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei integrated development process, and is willing to build a much wider reform and opening-up development pattern.
