Guangzhou Development District (GDD) will be home to a world top high school again as GDD, Granada Hills Charter High School (Granada) and Markham International Education Group signed a contract on Oct 11 to set up Granada Hills Charter School Guangzhou campus.

Granada is a comprehensive public high school founded in 1960. Having over 4,200 students in grades 9–12, it currently holds the record as the top comprehensive public senior high school in Los Angeles and the largest charter school in the US. Markham International Education Group is a world-leading education agency and the strategic cooperation partner for more than 300 US-based colleges, universities and high schools offering international programs for Chinese students.
Granada Guangzhou Campus will provide students with America-style basic education and integrate international university application and social practice activities with the teaching process. Students will have an opportunity to go to America for a month, a semester or a year during their social practice period. The school offers double diploma and implements a credit system. Once they get enough credits, students will be offered with both diplomas in China and America.
After finishing their high school with enough credits, students can directly apply for overseas universities. The school also provides students with opportunities to communicate with top teachers and professors from both China and abroad as experts, teachers and professors from across the world will be regularly invited to give lectures and offer trainings in the school.
The total number of students of the school is expected to reach 4,800 and the school will build itself into a top modern international school.
In recent years, GDD has been strengthening its efforts in introducing international education projects and several first-tier international schools have settled in the district including Huangpu Shrewsbury Experimental School and Sino-Singapore Knowledge City International Hwa Chong Middle School.
