Guangzhou clarifies scope for second CBD

Guangzhou land resources and planning commission announced the scope of the city's second Central Business District (CBD) on Oct 10.

The Tianhe CBD, as a national CBD, is the city's first business center with a long history and solid foundation.

The commission detailed the CBD's area which centers on the development zone along Pearl River in eastern Guangzhou. With a total area of 59 square kilometers excluding water areas, the CBD stretches from Kaifa Avenue-Jinqiao Road-Shakouyong (boundary of Guangzhou city) in the east to Huanan expressway in the west, and extends from Huangpuyong-Pearl River in the south to Zhongshan Avenue- East Dasha Road- Guangshen (Guangzhou-Shenzhen) Yanjiang highway in the north.

The area covers Guangzhou's key development districts including Lingang economic development zone in Huangpu district, Guangzhou International Finance Town, Guangzhou International Innovation City and Changzhou island. It is expected to be transformed into a world-class waterfront.

The municipal government has attached great importance to the second CBD by listing it in the government work report for the first time. According to this year's report, the government has urged Zhujiang New Town, Guangzhou International Finance Town and Pazhou Internet Innovation Zone to play a leading role in terms of development, and to build "Guangzhou International Finance Town - Lingang Economic Development Zone" as the second CBD, in a bid to boost growth of Pearl River economic belt.
