Wuxi's most famous erhu makers have decided to band together, and this harmonious approach is helping them win applause at the 2017 Music China fair in Shanghai.

Meicun town in Wuxi is famous as the home of the erhu, the traditional Chinese musical instrument often referred to as the "Chinese fiddle".

The town's erhu makers account for nearly 25 percent of China's entire erhu market, and companies such as Gu Yue and Guang Guo are famous nationwide.

But the former rivals have decided that they can play sweeter music as an ensemble.

For this year's Music China, one of the world's largest musical instruments fairs, more than 10 Meicun erhu makers decided to exhibit as a group under the slogan "melodious music in Wu culture".
