A news briefing to an upcoming gourmet festival aimed to promote the notion of being healthy and publicize local culture opened in Pingdu, a county-level city in the northwest of Qingdao, Shandong Province on Oct 11.
Zhang Jie, secretary of Pingdu's Party committee, said Pingdu will be an ideal host for this festival because it boasts vast land, a large population, a long history, rich resources, beautiful scenery, and vigorous development.

He added that the festival will be a grand social gathering where attendees can savor Pingdu's delicious food and learn the local culture. Meanwhile, he thought the theme of the festival as meaningful and affirmed that food is a significant part of culture and benefits health as well.
Moreover, Li Hucheng, Pingdu's mayor, was confident that Pingdu's beautiful landscape, long history and rich culture will add weight to this event.
Bian Jiang, vice president of China Cuisine Association, said the festival is important in setting a good example for future development of China's food industry and proposed that Pingdu should invest more heavily on its gourmet industry.
Yu Chong, committee member of China Travel Think Tank, said the festival is a push to the progress of reform in Pingdu and a good initiative to probe the upgrading of the industry based on the real situation of Pingdu.
