A former engineer with degrees in agro-chemistry and political economy, Yao Yisheng was voted mayor at the Third Session of the 9th Zhuhai Municipal People's Congress at the Great Hall of Zhuhai on Sept 29.
Yao, 52, had been appointed vice mayor and acting mayor upon the resignation of Mayor Li Zezhong being accepted on Sept 22. He is an ethnic Han born in Shantou, Guangdong Province in July 1965. He became a Party member in October 1986 and started work in July 1987.
Guo Yuanqiang, municipal Party secretary, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Zhuhai Municipal People's Congress, and permanent chairman of the presidium of the 9th Zhuhai Municipal People's Congress, presided as Yao took the oath to uphold the Constitution.
