Shanghai and Chongqing deepen convention industry cooperation

Chongqing Shanghai International Exhibition Co Ltd was unveiled at Liangjiang New Area's Chongqing International Expo Center on Sept 27. The new company hopes to become China's leading convention and exhibition platform.

The company is a joint effort of Chongqing International Expo Center Co Ltd and Shanghai International Exhibition Co Ltd with a total investment of 10 million yuan ($1.5 million), and is meant to provide whole industrial chain services for conventions and exhibitions.

Yang Jianrong, head of the Council for the Promotion of International Trade, said that the launch of the enterprise is a further exchange between Shanghai and Chongqing. Each of the two cities has advantages and prospects in the convention industry.

Gu Chunting, president and CEO of Shanghai International Exhibition Co Ltd, said that the joint venture will be developed into a model of the convention and exhibition industry in West China as the two companies reinforce complementary advantages. 

The new company plans four exhibitions featuring fashion and life, automotive components, tourism, and plastics, all scheduled for next year.

Up to this July, the Chongqing International Expo Center had hosted 958 events in its exhibition area of 4,800,000 square meters and welcomed 7,530,000 businesspeople from all over the world.
