“I’m really surprised that I can now purchase Australian goods in Baotou,” said a Baotou resident surnamed Zhang, “And the prices are much lower than that offered by daigou (meaning purchasing items on behalf of the customers and then shipping the items to the customers).”
Now, the Baotou residents will have more convenience while shopping, with the city obtaining approval to get Australian goods directly exported to Baotou.
Since last year, Baotou, the largest city of North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has been boosting ties with Australian cities.
The city added Mount Gambier, South Australia, as one of its friendship cities, after signing an agreement earlier in March to strengthen ties between the two cities.
The two cities reached an agreement of intent in 2016. Baotou has been cooperating with Mount Gambier in areas including investment, trade and education, laying a solid foundation for further collaborations between the two cities.
According to the agreement, the two cities will boost cultural and trade exchanges and cooperate in areas such as the economy, education and tourism.
