Myriad events liven up Zhuhai for the holiday week

A smorgasbord of popular and folk music, art exhibitions, and seafood feasts has been laid out citywide for residents and tourists of all ages during the eight-day National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday from Oct 1 to 8.

Chimelong Ocean Kingdom has opened Rainforest Drop Tower, which will take the riders on a tour in the clouds accompanied by blooming flowers. Sitting in a "petal-shaped parachute," one will fly up to 40 m to the top of an "ancient tree" and enjoy a panoramic view of both Ocean Kingdom and Fuxiang Bay.

Rainforest Drop Tower will be lit up in the evenings so that riders can enjoy a charming evening, according to an executive of the kingdom.

Meanwhile, a new Ocean Resistance evening show integrating more than 100 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), fireworks displays, laser show, fountain display, fliers on the water, and motorboat stunts, will offer an audio-visual treat.

Projects including Dolphin Enchanter, Ocean Diving and Ocean Sleepover, will provide close contact with marine animals such as dolphins and whale sharks.

With a theme "Mediterranean Festival," Ocean Spring Resort will arrange a hilarious parade at Fisherman's Wharf daily at 5:30 pm from Oct 1 to 8. Visitors will be prompted to dance and rejoice in the ardent samba, wild Maori stomp, and elegant Venetian masquerade.

Every night at 9:10, a Red Mill carnival will also be staged at the wharf. From Oct 1 to 6, a fireworks display will liven up the crowd with music accompaniment from 9:30-9:38 pm.

Also to be held are DIY competitions on multiple stages at Ocean Spring Resort every 10 am to 5 pm from Oct 1 to 8. Titled Romance in Zhuhai, a large-scale evening gala featuring a romantic atmosphere and dazzling lights, is on the program along with a buffet of Mediterranean characteristics and tour themed Hot Springs Culture.

Tourist attractions in Wanshan Marine Development Experimental Zone are also attractive as Gree Dong'ao Hotel will hold a beach barbecue party along with music by a Filipino band, parent-child games, and outdoor activities.

As autumn is great time for enjoying the harvest of the sea, a seafood festival will be staged at Wailingding Island in October, while seafood feasts will be available at Dreamland Resort there.

Xiangzhou central urban areas will also host an array of activities. The Zhuhai International Beach Music Festival at Haibin Beach (City Parlor) on Oct 1 and 2 will bring to the sand folk tunes, rock, hip-hop, electronic music, jazz, and punk performances. Alongside will be many kinds of delicacies to spice up the event.

During the same period, a National Day Arts Festival in Huitong Village of Tangjiawan Town will offer a concert of folk songs listed as intangible cultural heritages, original concerts, Jishan Cow Song Mid-Autumn Festival Antiphonal Singing Fair, exhibitions from Artists' Village, face-to-face graffiti activities, a creativity fair, and interactive handicraft sessions.

The 8th Beishan International Jazz Festival will be held at newly constructed Beishanli Square in Beishan Village of Nanping Town from Oct 4 to 5, bringing together nearly 30 jazz musicians from 10 countries and regions.

In the meantime, Xiangzhou's National Day performances will be staged at the Fisher Maiden Statue open area on Central Lovers Avenue, Meihua Urban Garden in New Xiangzhou, and City Parlor (Jida Haibin Beach) for free daily from 5-6 pm during Oct 1 to 7. The district's Culture, Sports &Tourism Bureau will invite the Zhuhai Philharmonic Light Music Orchestra and Golden Jazz Orchestra to give violin; dulcimer, a type of musical string instrument; erhu, a two-stringed bowed instrument; keyboard, and accordion performances at the three major scenic spots.
