Lianjiang, a county-level city in Zhanjiang, was named as an Industrial Base of Chinese Small Household Appliance on Sept 26.
The citation was made by an expert panel consisting of the China Light Industry Council and China Household Electrical Appliance Association during its tour to re-evaluate Lianjiang as the Hometown of Rice Cooker.
At present, there are 639 small household appliance enterprises in the city, of which five are designated as national new and high-tech enterprises. In 2016, the output of its household appliance industry reached 26.7 billion yuan ($4 billion), accounting for half of the gross output of Lianjiang.
According to Jiang Feng, president of China Household Electrical Appliance Association, the award is not only an honor, but also serves to strongly position the industry.
As the intellectualization of household appliances becomes more prevalent, Lianjiang is breaking into the domestic and international market, prompting local industry to move towards higher quality and internationalization, Jiang said.
Lianjiang's household appliance industry will focus on its quality and efficiency, said Cui Qing, deputy mayor of Zhanjiang, urging the city to carry forward the spirit of craftsmanship and promote innovation-driven development.
So far this year, Lianjiang has produced more than 139 million small household appliances, up 10.1 percent year-on-year.
