From the eminent calligrapher Shen Peng to renowned contemporary painter Wu Guanzhong, Wuxi, a picturesque lakeside city in East China's Jiangsu province, has cultivated numerous outstanding people in all walks of life.
To immortalize these people, promote their achievements, and encourage a more prosperous environment, Wuxi Daily Group, a local publisher, held a launch ceremony to present a series of books compilation titled Wuxi Natives on Sept 21. The books are a series of works recording a group of outstanding Wuxi natives from business elites and scholars to artistic masters.
A total of 15 local entrepreneurs were presented with copies of the books at the ceremony.
The compilation was inspired by a special column with the same name "Wuxi Natives" published in Wuxi Daily since 2014. The captivating stories captured in the books have won wide appreciation from the public, including Henry Tang Ying Yen, former Chief Secretary for Administration of Hong Kong, who has close family ties to Wuxi.
"I have been inspired by my parents' deep concern for Wuxi since childhood; I felt totally at home the first time I set foot in Wuxi," Tang said.
