Foshan's Shunde district government and Shunde Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau signed a memorandum of cooperation on Sept 19, to speed up the construction of a quality safety model zone for exports of furniture in the district.
The memorandum of cooperation was signed by Cai Wei, deputy head of Shunde district, and Zhong Haiwei, director of Shunde entry-exit inspection and quarantine bureau, in Shunde district, one of the major furniture production bases in Guangdong province.
Construction of the model zone for the quality safety of exports of wooden furniture will help raise the standard of wooden furniture production and export in the coming years.
Yang Guohai, deputy director of Guangdong Provincial Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, said the construction of the model zone will help furniture companies in Shunde improve their furniture quality and raise their competitiveness in the world market.
Cai Wei said the model zone would help Shunde further expand its furniture exports and increase exposure for local furniture brands.
"The district government will organize a series of events including trade fairs, to boost furniture exports and seek Sino-foreign cooperation in the coming months," Cai said.
Mei Rongneng, director of Shunde Furniture Association, said the future was bright for the production base. "As the country's biggest furniture production base, Shunde sells about 50 percent of its furniture abroad," Mei said.
Located in the middle of the Pearl River Delta, Shunde is home to more than 5,000 furniture companies, and in 2016, reached an annual furniture industrial production of more than 10.1 billion yuan ($1.55 billion).
