A biomedical international alliance for countries and regions along the Belt & Road Initiative was set up in Qingdao on Thursday to promote the transnational cooperation in the biomedicine and health-care sectors.
Supported by the National Development and Reform Commission, the alliance aims to export China's achievements in biomedicine to the friendly neighbors involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, realizing the international application of technological achievements, said Zhao Chunhua, director of the Tissue Engineering Center at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, at the China International Annual Meeting on Biology and Medicine.
"At the time, the organization is expected to introduce advanced technology, products and operation modes overseas, promoting research and industry development," he added.
Focusing on the transformation of scientific and technological achievements into realistic productivity, the alliance will formulate technical standards and consensus guidance in the health-care industry.
More than 600 people including senior officials from China Development and Reform Commission and Science and Technology Ministry, and industry experts took part in the international meeting, sharing their achievements.
Reviewing and summarizing the achievements in the biomedical and health-care industries in the past few years, the meeting provides suggestions for the development of the sectors, and builds an international communication platform technological advancement.
"The Chinese government invests a growing amount of money in the health-care industry to promote the sector's fast development," said Richard John Roberts, an English biochemist and molecular biologist, who was awarded the 1993 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, at the meeting.
