A film exhibition for new Chinese movies was held in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Sept 12, the day before the opening of the 26th Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival.

A film titled "The Mongolian Ethnic Group: 70 Years of Film", directed by Mongolian director Lisi Mai, was broadcast at the exhibition.

"The Chinese film industry has entered a golden period in terms of its market position and number of releases," said Zhang Hong, Party secretary of the Chinese Movie Association.

The recently released Wolf Warrior II has raised public enthusiasm as the action film has captured the nation's imagination.

Wolf Warrior II tells the story of a former Chinese Special Forces operative's adventures in a war-torn region of Africa occupied by insurgents and mercenaries.

"It has proven that Chinese films and especially films about heroism have market potential," said Sun Yeguang, general manager of Changying Cinema.

"I hope more Chinese movies will be made and more young film directors will achieve success in the future," said Zhang Hong.

Zhang claimed to have watched the film "The Mongolian Ethnic Group: 70 Years of Film" twice.

"I am so touched by the filmmakers of Inner Mongolia and their appreciation for prairie culture as well as Chinese culture over the past several decades," said Zhang.

Lisi Mai, director of the film, welcomed participants attending the 26th Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival on behalf of her hometown, Hohhot.

She claimed that movies themed on ethnic groups have developed well in the past thanks to the contribution made by the old generation of filmmakers.

"However, we cannot belittle the filmmakers of the new era," she said.

At the opening ceremony of the new film exhibition, trophies were awarded for 30 excellent new Chinese movies, including "Endless Love of Dunhuang", directed by Guo Yilin.

The exhibition will last four days and activities such as filmmaking and news conferences will be held.
