An original ethnic-themed animation competition was held at Inner Mongolia Arts University (IMAU) to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its establishment on Sept 12.

The contest aimed to encourage animators to pay more attention to regional ethnic groups and their rich cultural traditions. The competition also sought to unearth talented and imaginative youth in the animation sector to flourish in the local cartoon industry.

The event organizers received over 1,000 submissions from nearly 50 universities across China, including Peking University, China Academy of Art and Beijing Film Academy.

A total of 271 works were enrolled in the final candidate listing to compete for awards. From Sept 13 to 14, nominated animations were released at the 3-Dimensional cinema on the south campus of IMAU.

The competition issued eight first prizes, 16 second prizes, 23 third prizes and 43 awards for excellence.
