Special gallery reopened to promote paper-cutting

A paper-cutting gallery in Haizhu district of Guangzhou reopened to the public on Sept 10 after it was temporarily closed three months ago for renovation.

Founded in September 2011 by paper-cutting master Han Yan, Han Yan Paper-cutting Gallery has hosted a total of 14,800 visitors from home and abroad. More than 50 activities themed around paper-cutting inheritance have been held and over 800 people have been learning paper-cutting in the gallery, making the gallery a key place for promoting the traditional art of paper-cutting.

After the reopening ceremony, Han gave a special paper-cutting class for children.

Currently, the gallery features a total of five areas including paper-cutting knowledge exhibition area, human figure paper-cutting exhibition area and paper-cutting teaching area.

More than 30 paper-cutting works crafted by Han are on display at the gallery.

The paper-cutting teaching area is a newly added area of the gallery and Han will regularly show up at the gallery and teach those who want to learn paper-cutting techniques.

According to Han, the gallery will be a place for young children to learn and inherit paper-cutting techniques, but it will also be a base to cultivate paper-cutting teachers.
