Qiu Yuanping, director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, has called on Chinese language media around the world to play an active role in promoting China's Belt and Road Initiative.
Qiu made the statement at the opening ceremony of the Ninth Forum on the Global Chinese Language Media, held in Fuzhou, capital of East China's Fujian province, on Sept 10.
She called for overseas Chinese media to advocate for and spread the spirit of the Belt and Road Initiative, which aims to build infrastructure links and deepen ties among countries in East Asia, Central Asia, Africa and Europe.
According to Qiu, overseas Chinese media could play a key role in promoting information sharing, policy discussions, cultural integration and exchanges between people in China and other countries involved in the initiative.
"You are the participants, witnesses and chroniclers of this great age," Qiu told the attendees.
Representatives from 430 Chinese media outlets based in more than 60 countries and regions attended the forum. This year's event focused on the opportunities and challenges overseas Chinese media face with regard to the country's Belt and Road Initiative, as well as current trends in global media and cultural confidence.
Yao Jianhong, deputy director of the foreign and overseas Chinese affairs office of Xiamen, attended the forum.
