Guangzhou-based magazine Poetry and People recently presented its international poetry prize to an 88-year-old German poet Hans Magnus Enzensberger.

"His poetry was conceived in a time of social upheaval and reflects upon the questions of war, Nazism and evil which was present in systems and individuals," said Chinese poet Huang Lihai, who founded the magazine in 1999.

"It is a sophisticated exploration of areas not largely considered by others, a record of recent German history told from a fresh perspective and delivered with a voice not averse to irony and humorous self-depreciation."

Since 2005, the magazine has annually awarded prizes to both Chinese and foreign poets.
