Qingdao National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology (QNLM), China's only national laboratory on marine research for pilot run, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) on Sept 1, in Qingdao, East China's Shandong province.
Both parties agreed to enhance cooperation in issuing joint journals, hosting international conferences and training courses, establishing scientific awards as well as recruiting talents worldwide, according to the MOU.
Wu Lixin, Director of QNLM's Executive Committee, noted that QNLM focuses on international cutting-edge research with orientation towards national goals.
He said QNLM is committed to exploring and strengthening forward-looking, cutting-edge, primary and integrated scientific innovation in key research areas, major S&T missions and mega-science programs.
Wu expressed his hope that the two parties would work together to better facilitate the development of marine science and marine-related industry, adding that the two parties could take this opportunity to foster comprehensive and in-depth cooperation, thus jointly contributing to the development of global marine science and technology.
Bill Moran, publisher of Science Family of Journals, said it's a great delight to cooperate with QNLM, hoping that built on the basis of this signed MOU, the two parties would embrace more extensive cooperation.
According to Moran, as a non-profit organization, AAAS is dedicated to boosting the advancement of science, with special emphasis attached to communication with young students.
He also said, more than a journal, AAAS's biggest goal is to establish collaborations with other societies that share the similar values and mission.
"Our members are aware of what’s happening and keep abreast of important changes in science," Moran added.
AAAS is the world's largest general scientific society, with over 120,000 members and it is the publisher of the well-known scientific journal Science Family of Journals.
