Guangzhou, capital city of South China's Guangdong province, will be home to China's largest regional cell processing center, local media outlet southcn.com reports on Sept 8.
The news came following a circular issued jointly by government departments including Guangdong Provincial Commission of Health and Family Planning and Guangdong Food and Drug Administration to approve Guangzhou Saliai Stem Cell Technology with its plan of building a regional cell processing center.
Guangzhou Saliai Stem Cell Technology is a high-tech company committed to stem cell research, preservation, processing and application.
Known as omnipotent cells, stem cells can become a variety of tissues and cells after cellular differentiation. They have a promising future in treating diseases including tumor, cardiovascular disease, autoimmunity disease and diabetes.
As the first of its kind in Guangdong, the center will cover an area of 16,500 square meters and be equipped with smart cell preservation repository, automated cell processing plant and cell test center.
The center will provide reliable stem cell resources and technologies for hospitals and research institutions, offer preservation services for biological samples, and provide clinical cell testing services and stem cell processing and testing training.
