Promotion of the 2017 World Internet of Things Expo (WIOT) took an innovative turn on Sept 7, when the organizers released an official hip-hop track.
Performed by local rapper Du Yicao, the song's lyrics hype up the expo using a mix of English, Mandarin and the local dialect of Wuxi, Jiangsu province, where the expo will be held on Sept 10-13.
Over a hip-hop beat interspersed with clashing gongs and clacking Chinese castanets, Du educates his listeners on the concept, origins and development of IoT technology.
In the accompanying music video, Du shows off some of the benefits of IoT by riding around on a share-bike and using a facial recognition scanner.
The video also takes the opportunity to promote Wuxi, as Du dances in traditional Han-style robes at landmarks including Turtle Head Isle and Lihu Lake.
According to the young rapper, the song is designed to impress the high-profile attendees at WIOT such as Alibaba CEO Jack Ma.
"The innovative style attempts to present Wuxi’s new appearance to the expo's participants from around the world, such as Jack Ma," said Du.
The song and music video have won high praise from the WIOT organizers.
