Golly Wood and HK company join for new TV show

Golly Wood, a Foshan-based movie and TV series production base, has signed a contract with a Hong Kong production company to shoot a 50-episode TV show titled New Huo Yuanjia, or Fearless Warriors, in the Pearl River Delta city on Tuesday.

Shen Haixiong, member of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, joined hands with other senior officials, movie and TV show producers, directors and actors attended the signing ceremony.

The new TV show which tells Huo Yuanjia's stories is expected to be completed and broadcasted next year, with an aim to further promote Chinese culture and kung fu.

Huo Yuanjia was a famous Chinese patriot and a renowned kung fu master during the Minguo era (1912-49).

The TV drama is directed by established Hong Kong director Tsui Siu Ming who once directed the same show in the early 1980s. The show was once very popular among mainland audiences when it was broadcasted in many mainland TV stations in the1980s.

Meanwhile Foshan has planned to organize a kung fu movie week in November, to promote wushu in the city.

Zheng Yanxiong, deputy head of Guangdong provincial publicity department said the TV show is expected to play an important role in promoting the development of culture, movie and TV shows industries and advancing cooperation between Guangdong and Hong Kong in the entertainment field.

Zhu Wei, mayor of Foshan, said his city government has promised to expand investment to support the city's development of culture, movie and TV shows industries in the years to come.

Foshan, approximately 20 kilometers away from Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, is also known as the city of kung fu.

In addition to Huo Yuanjia, the city is home to many kung fu legends, including Bruce Lee, Ye Wen and Huang Feihong.
