Baotou student wins gold at national sports games

Chen Bofan, a student from North Heavy Industry No 3 Middle School, won first place during a Nangun competition for male students attending middle schools, at the 13th National Student Sports Games on Sept 5, winning the first gold medal for Inner Mongolia autonomous region, according to baotounews.com.cn.

Nangun, literally meaning "southern staff", is a variation of contemporary martial arts, exercises, and forms. It is based on techniques from martial arts originating in South China, and its movements stress offense.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Education, the General Administration of Sport of China, and the Communist Youth League Center, the 13th National Student Sports Games of the People's Republic of China opened in Hangzhou, East China’s Zhejiang province, on Sept 3.

A total of 5,966 athletes from 34 delegations from around the country will compete in 10 different sports, including athletics, basketball, football, volleyball, table tennis, gymnastics, and swimming, during the 13-day sports event.
