As the annual migratory season is coming, Lushunkou has started its autumn bird protection program and taken steps to purify the landing points of migrating wild birds.
On Sept 6, the 2017 Autumn Birds Protection Action, with a theme of “the action of guardians” kicked off in the Laotie Mountain Natural History Museum in Lushunkou, Dalian.

Lushunkou government officials including Yi Qingtao and Xia Derong attended the ceremony.
At the launching ceremony, Xia Deyong, deputy head of Lushunkou city, delivered a speech and expressed his thanks to relevant law enforcement officials, volunteers and students who devote themselves to protecting wild birds.
Xia said that it is necessary to strengthen public awareness of the need for protection of birds including enforcement of related laws to combat illegal bird hunting and trafficking.
“We should improve the habitat and restore the eco-environment for migratory birds to keep them in the wild where they belong,” Xia added.
There are many migration crossing points in Lushunkou, such as the Laotie Mountain area which millions of migrating birds, many of them endangered, pass every year.
Local environmental officers and volunteers persist in fighting against wild bird poaching.
This year’s protection activity started on Sept 1, and will last until the end of November.
The Laotie Mountain Natural History Museum, named a “National Teenagers’ Education Base for Science and Technology”, is now open free to the public.
