Residents of the urban area of Jinwan District will have access to sports facilities within a 10-minute walk or bike ride from home by 2020, according to the recently released Mass Fitness Plan.
Those in the rural areas will have fitness sites within 5 km of home. Three years from now, there will be full coverage of fitness facilities in new residential communities and open-access to all public sports facilities. What's more, at least 70 percent of public schools, conditions permitting, will open sportsgrounds and facilities to the public.
"We hope to further improve mass sports sites and facilities so that all residents can take physical exercises in their neighborhoods," said a Jinwan government official.

The plan also foresees that Jinwan will have its own district-level stadium, fitness center, and sports square (park). Sportsground area per capita is expected to exceed 3 sq m.
To achieve its goals, the local government will speed up construction of sports parks, basketball courts, small- and medium-sized football fields, small public gyms, and rural fitness trails. Jinwan District will also transform old workshops, warehouses, business facilities, and other idle public sites into sportsgrounds with standardized barrier-free facilities.
