Zhanjiang hopes to beef up its information infrastructure construction.
Zheng Renhao, Party secretary of Zhanjiang, held an in-depth discussion with a delegation headed by Su Shaolin, director of Guangdong Communications Administration, about the digitization of the city on Aug 29.
Currently, Zhanjiang is focusing on pushing forward the construction of its traffic infrastructure and new-generation of information infrastructure, in a bid to become a smart digital city and an information network hub in the Beibu Gulf region. Zheng said he hopes the Guangdong Communications Administration and telecommunications operators such as China Mobile could increase their investment and lend greater support for the information construction.

According to Su, the communications industry often moves in tandem with local economy. Telecommunications operators should seize the opportunity brought by local development and increase their spending in infrastructure, helping Zhanjiang to become a core city in Beibu Gulf.
Jian Qin, general manager of China Mobile Guangdong Branch, said the company will invest more in the city. New technologies including Internet Plus and Internet of Things could be of great help to improve local information-based growth and e-governance services such as upgraded communication networks for disaster prevention and alleviation, he added.
