With the BRICS Summit around the corner, the host city Xiamen started issuing media passes to domestic and foreign journalists on Aug 30.
The pass collection center is located on the first floor of Tower C of the Datang Center in Siming district of the southeastern coastal city. It's open from 8:30 am to 8:00 pm until Sept 3. Correspondents to the summit should bring required credentials to collect their passes.
The 1,037-square-meter center is divided into six sections with specific functions such as information consulting, domestic passes collection, overseas passes collection and medical treatment.
The center has also designated an area for the inspection of media equipment to be used by the journalists at any conference venue during the summit.
In addition to media passes journalists can pick up a grey tote bag bearing the message "BRICS 2017 CHINA".
The bag contains items necessary for conducting an interview such as notebooks, a USB flash disk, a sharpened pencil, and a gel pen that can be folded into a phone holder or act as a stylus pen, all of which feature blue and white hues.
Summit organizers are also supplying an umbrella, a pair of sunglasses and a map in the bag. The map shows famous scenic spots and specialty stores.
The bag also offers two boxes of the most representative tea in Fujian province and a square wooden box containing a piece of Jianzhan porcelain, a traditional ceramic listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2011. Jianzhan porcelain has enjoyed a fine reputation since the Song Dynasty (960-1279).
There are other treasures in the bag as well. A brochure is sure to excite travel enthusiasts and gourmets as it introduces so many attractions of the beautiful coastal city, including Gezai Opera, a traditional Chinese opera popular in Fujian and Taiwan, ancient architecture, bo bing, a Moon Festival celebration featuring moon cake gambling, and local snack wuxiang juan or five-spice meat rolls.
The bag also contains envelopes and ten postcards featuring Gulangyu Island, a beautiful islet recently included in UNESCO's list of World Heritage sites.
