In just 10 years, Guiyang has made great progress in tourism, with visitors increasing five-fold and revenue growing 11-fold, according to statistics from the Guiyang tourism development committee.

In 2007, Guizhou's provincial capital received 23.14 million tourists, earning 12.53 billion yuan ($1.88 billion), while some 111 million tourists visited the city in 2016, bringing in 139 billion yuan.

More than 70 million tourists visited Guiyang in the first half of this year, up 28.8 percent year-on-year, with total revenue reaching 90.7 billion yuan, increasing 30.7 percent compared with 2016.

With an average temperature of 23 C in August and many attractive scenic spots, Guiyang has become a popular tourism destination. The local airport has added some 20 routes to connect China's hottest cities, including Chengdu, Wuhan, Changsha and Guangzhou, with Guizhou province.

Qianling Mount Park, located in the northwest corner of Guiyang, is a good choice for people to enjoy nature and relax. The park was built in 1957 and is home to more than 1,500 species of trees and flowers. Visitors to the park increased sharply this month, with around 30,000 entering the park daily.

Huaxi National Urban Wetland Park has seen a similar influx of visitors, with some 432,000 tourists received from January to July, up 20 percent year-on-year, according to official statistics.

The quick development of tourism has also created opportunities for many related businesses. There are 200 tourism agencies and 56 star-rated hotels in Guiyang, providing high quality catering and accommodation services for visitors.
