The 25th Guangzhou Fair was held in the Guangdong province capital from Aug 25 to 28, covering 140,000 square meters and featuring nearly 7,000 booths from 60 countries across the world.

Held at the China Import and Export Fair Complex, the event consisted of 11 exhibition halls and centered on a wide range of areas including virtual reality equipment and technology, smart city, agricultural products, catering industry and rail transit. It functions as a platform to promote trade and investment.

Wen Guohui, mayor of Guangzhou, attended the opening ceremony of the fair and delivered a keynote speech. Wen said Guangzhou has been striving to build itself into an international convention center and thus has held many famous exhibitions such as the Guangzhou Fair, China Import and Export Fair and China International Finance Expo. In the future, Guangzhou will redouble its efforts to create a better business atmosphere and a more open economy for investors.

One of the most popular exhibitions was the AR/VR (augmented reality and virtual reality) pavilion where more than 100 VR technologies developed by 30 companies were showcased, enabling visitors to experience how VR technologies are combined with education, science popularization, entertainment and games.

The 25th Guangzhou Fair also saw the founding of the Guangzhou AR/VR Technology Innovation Alliance, an organization which will promote the integration of VR technologies with healthcare, education, multimedia and gaming. The organization will also cooperate with colleges from home and abroad to provide professional training for VR developers.

Another highlight of the fair was the Taiwan Expo, an event with two pavilions and featuring the exhibition of products from Taiwan or produced by Taiwan companies. It is the eighth time that Taiwan businesspeople have participated in the Guangzhou Fair but it is the first time for them to have a special Taiwan Expo.

"We have brought many good Taiwan products such as shredded fish, Oriental Beauty Tea and environmental-friendly products, and we hope to promote our business with Chinese mainland customers," said He Lingling, chairwoman of Kaohsiung World Trade Exhibition and Convention Association.
