Zhanjiang Power Supply Bureau sent 506 maintenance technicians to assist typhoon-hit Zhuhai in resuming its power supply on Aug 23.
Hato, the 13th typhoon this year, made landfall at Jinwan district of Zhuhai, Guangdong province, at around 12:50 pm Wednesday, registering a maximum central wind force as strong as 14 on the Beaufort scale.
Bringing heavy gusts and rainstorms, it caused massive damage in Zhuhai and severely impacted the local power grid, with 680,000 households having their electricity supply disrupted.
The first batch of personnel from Zhanjiang Power Supply Bureau set off for Zhuhai at 3:00 pm on the day, while 506 maintenance technicians left Zhanjiang at 6:00 pm and made an overnight trip to help Jinwan get its power back on.
Upon hearing the news, Zhanjiang Party chief Zheng Renhao complimented the bureau for launching the emergency rescue team, calling on neighboring cities to hold together and assist Zhuhai in its post-typhoon relief work.
