Living standards
During the past ten years, Wuxi has provided assistance with a large number of projects designed to raise the living standards of local residents in Akqi, including the construction of a public service center, Wuxi New Village, the People's Hospital and a heating project. The quality of public infrastructure in both urban and rural areas of Akqi and the living conditions of local residents have undergone tremendous changes as a result.
Economy
Supporting economic development in Xinjiang is an important part of Wuxi's aid program.
A key focus has been developing the forest-fruit and Kirgiz tourism industries.
A team of experts from Wuxi traveled to Akqi to help set up small businesses, which have received ongoing technical support from Jiangnan University.
Wuxi has also assisted with the development of tourism in Akqi by building a tourist information center, culture living room and culture blocks in the county.
Culture
Akqi is the homeland of the Kirgiz and possesses a rich and unique culture.
Wuxi and Akqi collaborated to produce Hero Manas, China's first original Kirgiz musical. Since its debut, the play has been staged in Wuxi, Nanjing, Xinjiang as well as Russia, the US and Canada to promote Kirgiz culture around the world.
