The Tibetan Drama Company of Qinghai Province was set up in 1965, previously known as Song and Dance Troupe of Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Region at its early stage. In thirty years or more, the Company has created and performed the opera At the Foot of Dahuang Mountain, many outstanding dance and vocal music pieces and Tibetan folk ballad programs like Jiuqu, Layi and Zerou. Among them, the large Tibetan mythology opera Price Nuosang won the outstanding script writing prize in the celebrations of the PRC's 35th birthday anniversary in Qinghai Province. The large Tibetan opera A Fairy Maiden Called Yile won the national outstanding script-writing prize at 1982-1983 competition and was performed in Hong Kong. Sujinima won a silver prize of script writing at the Second National Minority Theatrical Festival. Tibetan opera The Envoy of Tibetan King won a silver prize of the script writing at the Third National Minority Theatrical Festival, a nomination prize of Cao Yu Dramatic Literature Award in 1994 and a Wenhua new program prize awarded by the Ministry of Culture in 1996. The modern Tibetan opera Golden Daybreak won a gold peacock medal of the script writing at the Fourth National Minority Theatrical Festival.
The principal artists of the Group are: Dojietai (2nd grade playwright, representative works: Sujinima, The Envoy of Tibetan King); Hua Benjia (2nd grade playwright, representative works: A Fairy Maiden Called Yile and Golden Daybreak); Lajima (2nd grade artist, representative works: A Fairy Maiden Called Yile and Golden Daybreak); Renqingzouma (2nd grade artist, representative works: Sujinima and The Envoy of Tibetan King) and Luowa (2nd grade artist, representative works: The Envoy of Tibetan King and The Golden Daybreak).
