China Disabled People's Performing Art Troupe was established in 1987, subject to China Disabled Persons' Federation. It is a mass art troupe of amateur organization and professional management, with its troupers coming from all over the country, including the visually impaired, hearing impaired, physically disabled and mentally handicapped with a variety of identities; common workers, farmers, students and staff. The will of all troupers is to present to the audience the concept of fair-participation, strong perseverance and special artistic flavor.
The Art Director and other staff in charge of stage art, lighting, audio effects, costume design, vocals, instrument playing and dancing are all leading domestic artists. Meanwhile, its scientific and standard management and market-oriented operation have also contributed to the professionalism of the troupe.
Behind every artistic achievement, the handicapped artists have paid more effort, which is hard for normal people to imagine. While enjoying the performance of high artistic pleasure, the audience often comprehends their spirits of equal participation, constant struggle in adversity and the resolve of never giving up.
With its unique artistic charm, the troupe endeavors to evoke real love and friendship among the audience. Since it was established, the troupe has put on stage more than a hundred performances all over the country, demonstrating the rich inner world of the disabled, which have been highly regarded by top leaders of the country as "the embodiment of human greatness and perseverance". Former Premier Zhu Rongji once acclaimed that the troupe's performance "demonstrates the greatness of human being and the power of will".
The troupe has toured more than 30 countries and regions in Asia, Europe, America and Oceania. With their profound Chinese cultural background and ethnic flavor, the troupe is well received all over the world and praised as the "emissary of beauty and friendship".
With the income of its commercial performances, the troupe not only insures its development but also sets money aside for a special art charity fund to donate to the poor, old and victims of disasters.
