Chengdu Municipal Acrobatic Troupe

The Chengdu Municipal Acrobatic Troupe was founded in 1952, formerly known as the Grand China Circus. The Troupe has staged dozens of remarkable acrobatic programs with strong ethnic characteristics such as Cycling Skills, Pagoda of Chairs, Spinning Bowls of Water, Rubber Bands, Jumping through the Rings and Jumping Planks. In the recent years, the troupe has won many prizes at various acrobatic contests both at home and abroad. For example, Rubber Bands won the gold prize at the 5th International Circus Festival in Belgium. At the 2nd National New Seedling Cup Acrobatic Contest, Spinning Bowls of Water won the gold prize, Cycling Skills the silver prize and Jumping through the Rings the bronze prize. Spinning Bowls of Water won the silver lion award at the 4th China Wuqiao International Acrobatic Festival and the Silver Clown Award at the Monaco International Acrobatic and Circus Festival. At the 3rd National New Seedling Cup Acrobatic Contest, Pagoda of Bowls on a Pipe and Rubber Bands won the silver awards. Playing with Panda won the bronze prize at the National Gold Chrysanthemum Acrobatic Contest.

Since 1981, the troupe has toured countries like Egypt, Tanzania, Brazil, Columbia, the U.S.A., Kuwait, the DPR of Korea, Switzerland, Mexico, Cuba, Austria, Canada, Japan, Russia, France and Australia as well as Hong Kong region and has won popular acclaim. In 1984, the Troupe preformed at the art festival held during the 23rd Olympic Games in Los Angeles and made a hit with their distinctive style. Acrobats of the troupe were highly regarded by the Chairman of the organizing committee and the media who praised them as winning China's first gold medal of the Games.

Major acrobats of the Troupe include first grade performers Chen Li, Jin Jianfeng, Liu Kaichu and Wang Jiefang and second grade performers Yang Zongzhen, Ye Yueguang, Wang Lizhong, Wang Minghua, Wang Xiquan, Li Daming, Wang Zhizhong and Zou Guangrong.
