Xiamen Biomedicine Startup and Innovation Base in Fujian province has been named a national demonstration base for small and micro-sized enterprises, Xiamen Daily reported on August 12.
Managed by Xiamen Haicang Biological Sci & Tech Co, the base has successfully incubated over 30 high-tech companies which have developed into leading companies in the biomedical industry including AmoyDx, Amoytop, Wantai, and Bam.
The base is located in the center of Xiamen Biobay, a 10-square-kilometer biomedicine industrial park in the Xiamen's Haicang district. The central area of the park now houses a number of important industrial hubs, including Haicang Sci-Tech Center, Xiamen Biomedical Pilot Testing Base, and Xiamen Biomedical Industrial Park.
The hubs have helped Xiamen Biobay become one of China's leading centers for a number of different industries, among them medical devices, diagnostic reagents, health food, cosmetics, chemical medicine and biomedicine.
The park's medical devices and diagnostic reagents companies are growing fastest of all.
Biomedicine companies based in Haicang district received regulatory approval for 12 "Type III"medical devices — China's highest standard of life support devices — from the China Food and Drug Administration during the first half of 2017. The number accounts for 3.5 percent of all the Type III devices approved in China during that period, and 80 percent of the total approved in Fujian province.
